To the editor:

Having lived in Columbia County for 48 winters, it’s about time to thank all the highway departments and road crews who have worked so long and hard to keep our roads drivable and safe in any weather conditions. I have never seen such diligence and pride in their work as I have seen here, in Columbia County. This goes for all the levels of government, on all roads, in all conditions. Living on County Route 25 in Stockport, our Columbia County road crew (and all the Columbia County road crews) do a magnificent job, and living a few feet from Van Buren Road, I say the same about our Town of Stockport highway department. And our New York State crews also do an amazing job keeping our major roadways clear, clean, and safe in any weather conditions.

But these road crews and highway departments do their best to maintain our roads at all times, not just during the daylight hours of the work day. They work at night when needed, on holidays when needed, and in the worst weather conditions when needed. Therefore, I say thank you to all the men and women of our state, county, town, and village highway departments for the fantastic job they perform for the benefit of the residents of Columbia County.
