GHENT — A motorcycle operator was taken to Albany Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon after his bike crashed in Ghent, Aaron Hicks, public information officer for state police Troop K, said Wednesday.

The unidentified man, in his 30s, did not have life-threatening injuries, Hicks said.

The motorcycle veered off Route 217, in the area of Schnackenberg Road, and struck a utility pole. The bike then went down a small embankment before coming to rest, Hicks said.

At about 5:39 p.m., Columbia County 911 sent Ghent Fire Department and Greenport Rescue Squad to the scene.

A Life Net helicopter was placed on stand-by, but was not needed.

Route 217 was down to one lane of alternating traffic in the area of the crash.

The motorcycle was towed from the scene. State Police investigated. They were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

All firefighters were back in service at 6:11 p.m.
