Ronald “Ron” Caplan

Ronald “Ron” Caplan, age 80 from Hudson, N.Y., passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Ron was born the oldest of two children (Rita) on November 10, 1942 to the late Sol and Lillian Caplan from New Haven, Connecticut.

After graduating Hillhouse High School, he went on to Bryant College where he earned a degree in business.

He started his first job with the Mennen Company as a salesman up and down the east coast.

Ron eventually earned his real estate license and relocated to New York, where he practiced real estate for over 50 years.

Ron met Linda (Schwartz) Caplan in high school. They married in 1963 and went on to have 3 children, Donna Lebrecht, Lori Caplan, and Lacey (Cletis) Hogue.

Much later in life, Ron helped to raise Ali (Jay) Doan and Derek (Kristen) Barbanti, whom he loved like his own.

Ron’s greatest joys in life were his children, as well as his grandchildren, Rachel Lebrecht, Kai and Margo Doan, his great grandson Oakley LaBelle and his best four-legged friend Harper, whom he was known for driving around town with.

Aside from his family, Ron’s passions were animals, real estate, helping others, spending time with his friends, shopping on Poshmark, and enjoying the Kingston Chinese Buffet with Sid Richter.

Ron never met a stranger.

He had a handshake, smile, and a kind word for anyone that crossed his path.

His infectious laugh, large personality and sense of humor drew people to him, from all walks of life.

Ron will be remembered for his zest for life, his love and dedication to his children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and dog Harper.

He volunteered his time to organizations such as Out of The Pits, Hospice, United Way, and The Red Cross.

Ron’s warmth, kindness and generosity will be deeply missed by his family and throughout the community. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial donation to Out of the Pits Inc. (donations@outofthepits.org) or The Community Hospice Foundation (givetocommunityhospice.org). Ron greatly enjoyed volunteering at Camp Erin, a bereavement camp for youth who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives.

Services will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Bates & Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street Hudson, N.Y., 12534 followed by a burial at Cedar Park Cemetery, 20 Columbia Turnpike, Hudson, NY.
